What DAVECloud Is
Scripture: Colossians 3:23. DAVECloud is a DAVAR/DNCZ data-management lane for building small authority packets around large local archives. A Dataset Capsule records what exists, where it came from, how it was hashed, what policies govern it, which citations support it, and what can or cannot be restored. Raw files stay local or customer-owned by default. The cloud layer carries compact control evidence, not a careless copy of private data. What a Dataset Capsule Contains
A capsule can include file counts, source paths, source hashes, tree hash, policy tags, public-safe summaries, citation anchors, resolver notes, and a local proof document. It can support search, review, compliance, handoff, and recovery planning. A capsule is not automatically a backup. Reclaim Mode remains locked unless Dave proves exact restore from a self-contained authority pack or verified backing storage.
The boundaries
- Raw data stays local or customer-owned by default; DAVECloud does not require public raw-file upload.
- A hash-proof document proves identity and structure; it does not by itself prove byte-for-byte restore.
- Projection-only capsules can support search and citation, but they must not claim deleted-byte recovery.
- Private payloads, secrets, customer records, and locked company work stay out of public examples.
- Payment, publication, and provider integration remain approval-gated until the exact offer and route are approved.
Why It Exists
Most data systems force a false choice: upload everything, or lose the ability to reason over it. DAVECloud takes a narrower path. It lets Dave understand the shape, authority, and recovery boundary of an archive while keeping the most sensitive material under its owner. That is the point: smaller cloud footprint, stronger local custody, clearer citations, and fewer inflated claims.
Current Pilot Flow
The current safe offer is a local-first data authority audit. A selected archive is mapped locally, summarized in a public-safe way, tagged with policy and citation boundaries, and returned as a capsule plus proof document. Any restore claim is separated from inventory proof until it is tested. Any private company lane stays private. Any public launch, price, payment path, or provider mutation requires separate approval.
Start With a Scoped Review
If you want DAVECloud applied to a real archive, start with a scoped audit request. Describe the archive type, what you need to prove, and what must stay private. Do not send passwords, secrets, private customer data, or raw archives through a public form.
